Blueberry Technician

Seasonal part time May 20, 2008 to August 15, 2008

Provide Integrated Crop Management (ICM) scouting services to blueberry growers through the Piscataquis SWCD. Knowledge of plant and/or insect identification a plus. Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required. Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate of 50.5 cents a mile. Must be capable of vigorous exercise.

Job Description

• Visits blueberry fields weekly to do insect and disease monitoring.
• Copy of field visit notes provided to the producer.
• Weed populations will be noted and mapped.
• Traps for blueberry fruit fly will be set out and monitored.
• Soil and leaf tissue samples will be taken from non-bearing fields in mid summer.

Administrative Assistant

Year round part time

Provide coordination of administrative tasks for the Piscataquis SWCD at the United States Department of Agriculture office in Dover – Foxcroft. Organizational skills, ability to work independently and ability to work as part of a team are required. General computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with office equipment preferred.

Job Description

• Assist with Piscataquis SWCD programs, workshops and publications.

• Create and maintain paper and electronic files, such as Excel spreadsheets.

• Communicate with clients, partnering agencies and groups.

• Occasional weekend work.

• Some travel for meetings and events.

Salary range $9.00 - $10.00/hour based on skills and experience. Additional training will be provided.
